With spooky season creeping up on us I thought I would share a couple of my favorite books on audible that I always listen to get into the Halloween spirit, like I need any help to do that. But these are some of my favorites. Most are anthology books with some really good stories and some really bad ones. But enough chattering teeth, let's get to it.
These are not in any particular order.

First up is Autumn Nights: 13 Spooky Fall Reads. Now it would take me forever to go through each story in these books, so i will just touch on some of my favorites and give a run down on the type of stories you would find.
Some of the highlights of this collection were Bloodlines: A Sage Roberts Story from Cass Kim which centers around a pumpkin patch that has a dark history. Anything with pumpkin patches is always fun! Then there is From Hell by Tara Jazdzewski that offers a unique witchy twist on the Jack the Ripper story. This collection had some really good stories that are family friendly, and I think make a nice treat for all those Halloween tricksters out there.

The next ghoulish delight is We Bleed Orange and Black by Jeff C. Carter. This is a collection of very short stories that features everything Halloween. Haunted Houses, Costume terror, Trunk or Treat, Halloween on other planets, and of course, pumpkins.
Some of my favorites from the collection were Haunted House-1 Star, The Tale of the Burning Midnight, and Pumpkin Head. This is another family friendly selection that should be enjoyed by all the little ghouls out there.

Walking After Midnight: Tales for Halloween offers up some good Halloween fright tales. One of my favorites was Hayride which is about a family who encounter a spooky specter while taking wild ride of terror. Into the Abyss was another good one about some young ladies that find out that playing with a Ouija is bad for your health. Then there was the creepy, Trick or Treat about some visitors you wouldn't want to find on your doorstep. Tales in this book were a bit longer and more frightening but fun.

Ronald Kelly brings the next dose of Halloween horror with his collection of tales called The Halloween Store and Other Tales of All Hallows' Eve. This one is loaded with some fun frights about subjects like a rock n' roller who has made a pact with the devil, tormented trick or treaters, an advertisement of evil, and a serial killer with a fondness for jack o' lanterns. I would say these stories were a bit more graphic than the previous books, but still not anything to crazy.

This is the first book on the 31 Nights of Halloween series (not to be confused with the annual movie listing). This collection of frightening fun has some of my favorite tales for the spooky season. The first one to mention is A Pity Party of Monstrous Proportions by Patrick Shand which offers a glimpse into the lives of the classic monsters like Dracula and Frankenstein as they watch the trick or treaters going by in modern costumes. So much fun. A few more good ones are Four Nights, Lorelie, Trick or Cheat, The Full Moon, and The Monster Under My Bed. This was another collection of really fun stories that are for the most part light-hearted and suitable for most readers. Just make sure you listen with the lights on.

If 31 Nights of Halloween wasn't enough, how about 31 More Nights of Halloween. That's right, there was even more scary stories to tell in this second edition to the series. Some of the delightful demonic stories include Last Halloween by Jay Wilburn, Halloween Fright by Christopher Beck, and my personal favorite, Pumpkins by Rob Bliss. Almost all the stories in these two Halloween collections are worthy of mention but in the interest of time, I will simply say, if you are looking for something to listen to when you are out and about or if you're in the kitchen creating your own Halloween tasty treats, then these are the books you want to listen to. They will set the festive mood for you and have you howling at the full moon.

The last book I want to mention is actually a novel called 12 Hours of Halloween by Edward Trimnell. This young adult fiction book is a real treat for anyone looking to get into the holiday spirit. It is the story of three young friends who go out for their last night of trick or treating and encounter a world of terror that has them running for their lives. They encounter ghosts, vampires, zombies, and the "head collector". That character will have you staying indoors this all Hallows' eve. Can they survive 12 hours of real horror? Check it out and see. This was a great book that every Halloween fan should have on their shelf or saved in their digital library.
There you have it. Some of my personal choices for your Halloween listening (or reading) pleasure. Grab yourself a slice of pumpkin bread, a warm cup of apple cider, and get ready to be frightened out of your mind. After all, what is Halloween without some scary stories?
